One Week Left till SF FLOW
A few of us went on a pre-ride this last weekend.
Lessons Learned:
PREPARE FOR A LONG, ROUGH COURSE. Ask the ‘cross bike boys- they were faster on the roads, but had some skeeeetchy decents to deal with. And some hard technical climbing to get to those decents. I still reccomend a cx hardtail, that is, if you don’t want to walk the fun/challenging stuff.
You’ll be grinning ear to ear after the adventure, but you’ll be dog tired, too.
BRING A MAP OF SAN FRANCISCO. Should you decide you don’t need to punish yourself through the whole course, you can always bail out early, and meet us in the park for festivities and awards. A map would help you do so.
BRING FOOD TO EAT MID RIDE. Yes it’s all wihin SF, but yes it’s still 30miles, 4k of climbing. We’ll provide some nutrients at one checkpoint, but you’ll want to have more than that.
BRING LIGHTS AND WARM CLOTHES. You’ll likely be riding back to your car/bart/home in dusk or dark, and we’ll be grilling and drinking in the park until nightfall, so be prepared.
and now some visual teases of what is to come…

See y’all 11am, 11/16/08!

We did half of it this morning (had to get to work), agreed brutal but we smiled the whole time and after. One on cross bike, one on a mountain bike and one on a rigid 29-er. I cannot wait until Sunday!

yup. ride was badass. i thought there would be too much pave, but alas this was the only time to recover and even then not for too long cause then it was up a hill again. I swear it felt like we climbed most of the time.
I was neat to string together various parks. Thanks to the Cowboy and the Dino!
I’m still gonna rock the cross bike. It was a bit brutal, but I’m kinda dumb like that plus I don’t have my geared 29er built yet. That’s what I would recommend. Front suspension would be a plus, I don’t think you need a dualie. If you do go dualie then make sure itz an XC dualie not a DH rig.
Oh and for all that is holy don’t ride a fixed gear, you will die!

Looking like a fun ride, tried to piece some of it together the last few early mornings but going to wait and see if I can do the whole course without getting lost!
Doing it on my single speed, with a bit smaller cog.

Thanks for organizing the event. I took a bunch of photos at the stairs on Mt Sutro and some other places. See if you can find yourself there. My photos (with captions) are posted to Picasa(http://picasaweb.google.com/mudncrud/MTBSFDirt#). If Picasa is blocked for you, you can also see the same photos at our gallery (http://www.mudncrud.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=19360).

That was the most fun I had all year! What more can you ask for? Cool ride, cool people lots of fun. Thanks for putting me in the clip, I was able to show me mum what I really love to do. I’m the guy who dumped it at 1:22.
Can’t wait until the next time so I’m planning on another round soon.
Peace.
